Description
This is a four walled box I hand shaped on my bandsaw then smoothed with fine French rasps before carving patterns from my imagination into the sides and top; not really sure where the carving inspiration came from…who knows. You can use it to store small items or quantities of special things. It was bandsawn from a block of incense cedar. I handcarved the body and lid of this box to add some interest before lightly milkpainting it yellow, but also leaving a hint of the wood color poking thru; imagining an antique appearance. I finished this one inside with food safe walnut oil, so the wood color is maintained. I cut a special lidkeeper (that’s the part inside the lid itself alignining the lid with the box) out of some port orford cedar I have in my shop…it just smells so good. The exterior milkpaint is topcoated with polyurethane varnish for protection. Some natural inclusions may be found in this box such as knots, small cracks and checks that do not compromise the integrity of the piece. I carve my sign in the bottom of each box so you will always remember who cut, shaped, carved, and finished this small fine piece. One of a kind; store your stuff and even salt if you wish!
