This is a two walled box I call a pod, because it reminds me of certain types of seed pods. You can call it whatever you want and use it to store small items or quantities of special things. It was bandsawn from a block of incense cedar that is known for its strong but clean odor. I hand carved the box lid and exterior of the box with gouges; I am not certain where I got this pattern, but often get my ideas while listening to music…but this and its’ twin (Big Blue I) both have an aboriginal feel to me and I don’t have any aboriginal music that I know of. These two pods differ only slightly in the lid and box carvings. I finished this one both inside and out with milk paint; baby blue outside and deep blue inside. I made the outside coats a bit thin to allow a little hint of the wood color to show thru, thinking an aged look, like me. As with most of my milkpainted pieces, this one was topcoated with polyurethane for finish protection once the milkpaint had cured. Some natural inclusions may be found in this box such as knots, small cracks and checks that do not compromise the integrity of the piece.
